So I’ve been in South America for two weeks. Most of the hotels I stayed at had an American newspaper printed up each morning which (thank God) DID include American Idol tidbits and gave me my fix. Regardless, the first thing I did when I got back was catch up on my Simon. Here’s a summary of the good and totally weird moments:
Group 1
When Seacrest is doing his “suspense” thing with the results, there’s always some creepy instrumental music in the background. But this is the first time in many seasons I’ve noticed the weird moaning. Did anyone else notice that? It sounded like zombies.
Tatiana Del Toro. Wow. What is with that weird head movement when she was done with her song? Even though I think she’s the most annoying person in the world, I actually thought she did pretty good and has a good voice. But that head movement just totally ruined it. I wanted to reach through the computer and bitch slap her. Also, her weird plea at the end was TOTALLY out of line. If we learned anything from Heba and Ed from Biggest Loser Couples, it’s let American do it’s thang…don’t try to beg for survival! It’s no surprise that she was kicked off, especially when paired with superstar Danny Gokey during the results, and it’s also no surprise that even in her exit she stuck to her drama-queen ways and tried to steal the scene from Danny. I was laughing out loud when they shuffled her off the stage and only focused on her periodically during Danny’s song crying in the corner. hahaha.

I have to take a moment to give a shout out to Season 7 contestant Carly Smithson, who in my opinion blows most of Season 8’s contestants out of the water. She NEVER should have gotten kicked off as early as she did last year….bring Carly back!
I was heartbroken when Anoop Desai was kicked off. I think the way they are doing it this season is kinda messed up, because we really don’t get to see much of the performers. The good thing though, is that the judgest get to pick three wildcard contestants to enter back into the competition. I’m pretty confident that Anoop will be one of these contestants. Even though the song was kinda random, his voice is great and he definitely deserves another shot.
I don’t really think anyone else from Group 1 is worth mentioning…..the rest kind of sucked.
Group 2
Jasmine Murray sang Love Song by Sarah Bareilles and I totally disagreed with the judges on this one. I really liked it! I thought she put a different diva spin on it and I think she’s got a good voice. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s another Wildcard contestant.
Matt. Giraud. Baby. They had to pull me off the ledge on this one because I knew you were going home. This guy is unbelievable but picked a TERRIBLE song for his voice. He was also ridiculously nervous and you could totally tell. I still think Matt is in the top three most talented people on the show but I had no doubt after this performance that he was a goner. Randy…Paula…Kara…and Simon…PLEASE BRING MATT BACK!!!!!
And then there’s Nick Mitchell a.k.a. Norman Gentile or Mangina or whatever is name is. This guy is a total moron. Why? Because he actually has a pretty good voice but insists on making a mockery out of the competition with his ridiculous act. Don’t get me wrong…he was fun and entertaining. But would I ever buy his album, go to his concert, or tune in to him on TV? Abso-freaking-lutely NOT. I prayed one more hour than Simon that Nick does not get to come back on the show. Best of luck to you Mangina.

Norman Gentile / Nick Mitchell
Allison Iraheta has got a great voice, but I completely agree with Simon in that her personality sucks. She’s the typical teenage anti-mainstream anti-everything girl with a bad attitude. She could go real far in this competition…but needs a personality check real fast.
Kris Allen made it through to the top 12. I was actually pretty shocked about this. I mean, his voice is pretty good, but overall I’d say he’s pretty boring. Too boring to post, in fact.
Megan Joy Corkery had this weird butt shake thing going on. She kind of reminds me of my friend Dayna when I used to teach her how to dance in like 5th grade. In other words, she reminded me of a child with special needs. Aside from the dancing though, she had a lot of trouble hitting those high notes. She started off OK but really lost it at the end. I’d be annoyed if she got back on the show.
I actually disagreed with the judges yet again regarding Matt Breitzke’s performance. I really like that song and thought he did an OK job, but not good enough to make it through to the top 12 for sure. So I was not surprised at all that he took a seat after the results. The advice I would give him, yet again, is DON’T TALK BACK TO THE JUDGES! Just let American decide. Jeez. If he makes it back, I hope it’s not just because he’s blue collar or whatever. I’m way over that angle.
Kai Kalama: Good voice, terrible shirt, looks like Sideshow Bob.

One last time during this episode I completely disagreed with the judges again regarding Mishavonna Henson. I really liked this girl. She sang drops of Jupiter, a favorite song of mine, and I thougth she sang it very well. The judges thought she was too serious and wasn’t being “young” enough. I could not disagree more! I think she’s got a great voice and I could really see her being a recording artist. It pisses me off that girls like this almost don’t make it on the show, and they waste space on Normangina.
Without seeing Group 3, at this point in the game my money is still on Danny Gokey. His amazing voice combined with heartbreaking story makes him surefire bet. Anothing thing I noticed is that a lot of contestants this year are single moms. Before I audition next year it looks like I might have to get impregnated.
