Top 13 sings Michael Jackson

March 11, 2009 · Leave a Comment

This episode started off with the weirdest announcement thing. It was like a Bulls Game. I curtain came up and they announced the judges one by one as they walked downstage to their seats. They are usually sitting down. Then they did the same for Ryan Seacrest, who totally called out the new entrance, clearly thinking it was ridiculous. LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE! The contestants had the weirdest entrance too. The camera guy was angled upward at them and got total crotch shots. The contestants didn’t know when to go and it was very awkward.

The theme for the night is Michael Jackson, which i’m SUPER excited about. But, I seem to remember Paula critisizing one of the contestants during the top 36 saying something to the tune of “Don’t touch michael Jackson’s songs”. That’s ironic.

Lil Rounds kicked off the evening in a really cute top. That was my favorite thing about the performance actually. She’s got a total great voice but it’s just not my style. Very loud and booming. Would never buy an album. I’m glad Simon threw out some criticism about her singing, but I disagree about the top! She’ll make it through though, no doubt. I wonder where she got that top…

Next up was Scott MacIntyre a.k.a. Blinkin singing Keep the Faith. Now don’t forget, we’ve already established I’m a total bitch. But I borderline HATE Scott. Ok it’s not really Scott I hate, he seems like a cool guy, but I hate America for voting for Scott when he’s just NOT THAT GOOD. His stage presence sucks too, and although I’m sure it’s hard, it counts. Stevie Wonder is great to watch perform, and to listen to. Scott is neither. It pains me that his visual impairment will carry him through until probably the end. I do love Keep the Faith though. Simon said no one’s ever heard it, and Paula goes “It was the biggest selling record in Norway!”. Rrrright….

Danny Gokey sings PYT and totally killed it vocally. This guy had got talent AND a sad story. He’s my prediction for this year’s Idol. He started it off slow and jazzy and then kicked it up to high tempo which was awesome. My only criticism is he looked a little awkward dancing at first but he got it together pretty quick. Ok, I swear I just wrote that before Simon said the exact same thing. I swear. I’m a mind reader.

Michael Sarver had a super cute intro and I think he did a super great job singing You are Not Alone. This guy has got a great smile too. Does he have a brother, should be the real question. He’ll make it through no doubt. And according to Randy, “out of everyone tonight, you’re one of the best for sure”. There were only three before him. Paula used the word distinctually. Although I already new this, my spell check says it’s not a word. distinctly, Paula. Distinctly.

Jasmine Murray’s nephew is SO CUTE! She sang I’ll be there and I think it started off a little rough. Then, I swear, she sounded exactly like Michael. It’s really weird. I think she’s a Jackson.

I wasn’t really a huge fan of Kris Allen during the earlier rounds, but I really enjoyed his performance this round. He’s got a really good voice and good facial expressions. His voice did crack a bit like a 5th grade boy but it was kind of charming. I wasn’t really feeling the guitar though..I kinda wished he went solo and threw down some dance moves. “Very well job done” says Randy.

I admit it. Allison Iraheta has a great voice. She deserves to be in the top three no doubt. But I still stand my my feeling that her personality totally sucks.  She pissed me off a little less tonight, but still prompted a “zip the lip” from Paula. Simon told her to “lighten up” and Allison says “It’s not like I’m cutting myself”. Sweetie. Not a good thing to say on national TV.

Anoop Desai is so freaking cute. He reminds me of Kumar from Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. Not just because he’s Indian. But he’s a hot Indian who looks like him. He really needs an eyebrow wax though. Was not really a fan of his song choice. He’s got great stage presence but the song didn’t show off his voice at all. It kinda sucked, and the judges agree. Poor Anoopi:( Thankfully, knowing how the show usually goes, the bad reviews from thejudges will probably cause the voters to go nuts over him and I bet he stays.

Jorge Nunez sang some weird song that I didn’t like. But he’s super cute and he’s definitely got the Latino vote. This kid will be famous no matter what. His performance sucked and he goes “I didn’t want to sing Bad by Michael Jackson” and Simon says “you sort of did.” Ba Dum Snare! Good one Simon. Great voice, not a great job tonight.

Ryan Seacrest couldn’t take his hands off Megan Joy Corkery during her interview! What a weirdo. I think he’s trying to get in on that shiznit! Megan sang Rockin Robin, which I didn’t know was a Jackson Five song. I actually think this song really suited her well. It was cute and fun and bubbly, just like Megan. This is the first performance of hers I actually liked. And what a shocker….the judges hated it! I can’t believe how not on the same page we are about this. She’s got this little butt shake thing that I think will get old real soon, but for tonight, I’m a fan.

Adam Lambert comes from a really straight-edged, well-off family which is not surprising given his punk-rock rebellious look. I think Adam is kind of a joke. He’s got a good voice and I’m sure would do very well in a really really metal rock band, but as a mainstream pop singer, not so much. I think he should start a Guns ‘n’ Roses cover band and be done with it.  I can’t believe how much I am disagreeing with the judges tonight. They loved him. WTF?!?!

Matt Giraud. I love. I fist-pumping love. He is so talented and awesome. I didn’t totally love the song he picked, but I still loved his performance, which just shows how much I love him. Matt, call me. We can go to Crossroads mall together.

Alexis Grace’s kid is ADORABLE. I’m loving all the kids on the show this season. I think they should have a kids halftime show where all the kids come and sing. Didn’t love the song but again, she is just so amazing that it didn’t matter. She’s got some kick ass stage presence.

My Top 3 prediction: Danny Gokey, Matt Giraud, Alexis Grace.

HOLLER.
