A new rule was announced on Amerian Idol tonight…the “Judges Save!” The new rule means that in the first five rounds of the competition, the judges can choose to save someone that was voted off, but just once. I think the idea behind this rule is key, as many of my favorite performers have been kicked off too early in the past. But, in the first five rounds? that still leaves 8 contestants left…plenty of room for some crack slippers get through.
The performances started with a Jackson Five Medley and lots of awkward dancing. Of course it’s not a dancing competition…but has there ever been an American Idol that’s a bad dancer? I think not. Keep an eye on the dancing!
So on to the results….
Matt Giraud….SAFE! That’s really all that matters. But for information’s sake I’ll go on…
Jasmine and Megan, both Wildcard picks, get pulled on to centerstage, and Ryan announces that Jasmine is the one going home (unless, of course, she gets the Judges Save!). I think Jasmine has a great voice, but it’s clear she doesn’t have that star quality….not Idol material! I don’t think the judges will save her, as she will just get voted off next week. Yup, I was right. She should definitely come back in a year or two and try out again though once she gets more experience!
Next up was Kanye West performing Heartless. Now, is it just me, or does Kanye West seem a little out of place on American Idol? This just really doesn’t seem like his target market…anti-everything Kanye who hates everything mainstream. He must be really desparate. Also…I’ve seen Kanye perform and this was pretty terrible.
Finally, they bring Anoop and Jorge in the middle to announce who’s gonna go. Oh yeah, it was after a Kelly Clarkson performance that was not much better than Kanye’s. As suspected, the Anoop-lovers banded together to pull him over the edge and beat Jorge. Anoop safe until next week!
