I seriously hate country week. I understand that a lot of Americans like country, but I think it’s about time they switch it up and represent those of us who think it sucks. Why not gangsta rap night? Or winy chick music night? Anyways…it seems they stuck with the weird Price is Right announcement thingy when bringing out the judges. Everyone looked happy as a clam, except for Megan Corkery who looked she just got in a bitch fight backstage. Then Danny Gokey accidentally (?) hit her, which was pretty funny. Apparently she was really sick, so I’d probably be miserable too if I was her.
Michael Sarver was up first singing some country song I’ve never heard of (you’ll hear that a lot in this post), but all things considered I thought it was pretty good. I think he’s got a great voice and he’s such a likeable guy…but I also hate when people argue with the judges and try to come back with some witty comment as he did after Simon’s review. Just suck it up, smile, and nod.
Allison I was up next with, yeah, some country song. She’ll make it through for sure…and she knows it. Kris Allen followed soon after and got great comments from the judges, but to be honest, this guy really bores me. He’s too vanilla. I got a good amount of Facebook stalking done during that song.
I thought Lil Rounds did a great job with her song. Country is obviously not her niche but I liked that the song was more straight forward and she didn’t seem as much like a Mary J Blige copycat. Randy didn’t like it and they were dogging her for not picking a more mainstream song that could crossover to R&B. lame. Simon even dropped the Mary J comparison and said he wanted a more crossover song. I think they are pegging her in a corner and that sucks!!
Thank you Adam Lambert for making a country song not country at all. This was the first time I actually enjoyed Adam’s performance. It was very unique and I’ll admit he does have a pretty good voice. But i feel like this was one of the first times he actually showed off his singing voice and didn’t just do the Axl Rose scream. It reminded me of Moulon Rouge. Thanks Randy and Paula for backing me up.
Scott McIntyre. we all know my thoughts on this. But what was great about this segment is that Simon and Paula duked it out. Paula said that he was using the piano as a crutch and he should mix it up a bit. I think what she was really trying to say, is “you bore me but I don’t want to tell you you suck because you’re blind,” but she didn’t want to say that. So, Simon said that was a dumb thing to say, because I guess when you think about it, the only other thing he can do is stand there. Eek. So Paula said he was being disrespectful, and so on, and so on. Their dishonesty is catching up to them!!
I think nerves got to Alexis Grace a little…she still is amazing but not as strong as usual for sure. Same for Danny Gokey…wasn’t as impressed with him as I usually am. They both still rock though. Send ‘em through! I did agree with Simon in that Danny’s outfit sucked. It makes me love Matt Giraud even more knowing that he made fun of Danny prior to the performance.
Anoop Dawg is back! Anoop showed off his great vocals this week singing Always on My Mind instead of going with a goofy crowd-pleaser. I think he did a great job and with his backers a little fearful from his almost vote-off last week, I’m sure he’ll make it through.
I liked Megan Joy Corkery more this week than any night in the past. Her eyeshadow was badass, but the song was OK too. She’s just so awkward and weird that it’s hard not to think she’s a little cute. In a way she reminds me of Duffy. If I had heard Duffy on American Idol, I’m not sure what I would have thought. Now of course I think she’s amazing. So, who knows. Maybe Megan Joy is the next Duffy.
Matt Giraud- I love you. Nuff said.
Who’s going home tomorrow? My prediction is Kris Allen. The judges all loved him….but to me he was super forgettable. He also doesn’t have a sob story.
