Two Lorettas, Two Days

Food

Although the Loretta didn’t sound particularly appetizing, I knew I had to try Sarks’ “Signature” dish. I went with the Bacon Loretta – french bread, bacon, white brick cheese, onion, tomato, and green pepper with a side of hash browns. While it definitely satisfied my late night drunken food craving, I wasn’t overly enthusiastic about it at the time. It wasn’t until the next day, when I couldn’t get the Loretta off my mind, that I realized the true genius of the sandwich. The concept is simple, but the combination of flavors had me drooling for hours. I went back the next night for The Disaster, a homemade spicy sausage, which is absolutely my new favorite. The hash browns were a little under done for my taste (I like them extra-crispy) so make sure you tell them how you want it.

Atmosphere
As both my trips to Sarks were late night ventures and I suspect most didn’t know about the new hours, the restaurant was pretty desolate when I was there. But when the sun came up, the patio at Sarks was hopping with nostalgic North Shorers and Lincoln Parkers eager to try out their newest neighbor. Sarks opens at 6am, and I’m thankful I live on the north side of the buliding. If you go during any normal hours, expect a wait (but I heard they’ll give you free goodies if the wait is long enough).

Service & Management
Since I was basically the only person there, the service was excellent. The food came out quickly and a server, Anna, was super cool and chill and basically kept me company by the bar while I sat by myself (did I mention that I went alone for the second time while I waited for my friends…..is that weird??) The owners are cool as well and you can tell they’re really passionate about the restaurant and its success.

Bottom Line
Sarks is bad news bears….and by that I mean that I simply can’t resist it and will probably go every weekend night. Mother f*cker….my diet was going so well.
